Social Housing - What Prospect for Institutional Investment?

Although UK institutional investors have total assets of over £3 trillion and property assets of well over £150 billion, equity investment in social housing accounts for only £0.4 billion, a tiny fraction of the value of social housing in the UK.
Research by a team from the CCHPR reveals that Housing Associations do not appear to have significant or substantial appetite for equity investment in their core social housing activities ‒ despite the apparent desire of the institutions for this type of product. Many providers see the combination of bank and bond financing as meeting all their anticipated requirements.
With Professor Oxley setting the scene, based on this recently concluded study, this seminar offers the opportunity for an industry debate, with contributions from a wide range of interests represented in the audience, including participants in the original research.
